Mission:
Targeted to young, high school & collegiate student athletes, Legally Lean© is a Sports Performance Nutrition & Performance Education Program geared to tackle the use & abuse of Performance Enhancement Drugs (PED) & steroids & unsafe supplements; prevent the eating disorders epidemic; & provide healthier, practical strategies, options & resources for achieving athletic & academic success.
Program Goals:
- Build healthier bodies & minds with evidenced-based nutrition, training & injury prevention strategies from licensed & certified health experts.
- Promote healthy food & fitness options & resources to help student athletes reach their personal best on & off the field!
- Enlighten & educate student athletes about the short & long term consequences of Performance Enhancement Drugs (PED) steroids, tainted supplements, energy drinks, alcohol & recreational drugs.
- Strive to prevent eating disordered behaviors, poor body image & low self-esteem.
Meet author Lisa Dorfman, MS, RD, CSSD, LMHC, FAND
Founder & Director
Known internationally as The Running Nutritionist® Lisa is a leader to industry, public and press for three decades. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics, Board Certified Professional Counselor, Diplomat of The American Psychotherapy Association, Certified- ISAK certified anthropometrist, USAT & F & USA Triathlon coach, Certified Reiki Practitioner & Fellow of The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
Since 1983, Lisa has built a diverse portfolio offering Integrative Sports, Performance and Clinical Nutrition Counseling and guidance for more than 15 hospitals and medical centers; corporate programs, government as consultant with the Federal Correctional System, Metro-Dade Police, US Department of Customs, and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA); as a Culinary Dietitian working with chefs and staff worldwide at Sandals Resorts, Ritz Carlton, Doral Saturnia, and Bitter End Resorts in the BVI. She has been a culinary educator at Johnson and Wales University & Miami Culinary Institute & serves as the Chairperson of the Miami Culinary Institute Advisory Board. In 2015, she is launching Legally Lean To Go a Farm-to-Table personally customized, and scientifically formulated meal delivery service.
A media spokesperson, Lisa has worked on dozens of TV, radio and print campaigns in Satellite Media Tours (SMT), ground & remote (GMT/RMT) tours worldwide. She is the author of 8 books, including her upcoming book, Legally Lean: Sports Nutrition Strategies for Optimal Health & Performance 2014); several book chapters & is former Nutrition Editor for SoBeFit Magazine. She has appeared on 20/20, Dateline, Good Morning America Health, FOX News, CNN, MSNBC and ESPN and has been featured in numerous publications including: USA Today, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Health & Runners World magazines.
Lisa is a competitive runner and triathlete who has competed in more than 34 marathons (PR 2:52:32), IronmanUSA Lake Placid, dozens of half marathons and 1/2 ironmans, and hundreds of running and multisport races. In 2004, she competed for the United States on Team USA at the World Long Distance Duathlon Championships. She is personal nutritionist for high school, collegiate & professional athletes in the NFL, MLB, NBA, PGA, USTA, US Skating was the US Sailing Olympic and Paralympics Team Nutritionist for the 2008 Olympics & serves on the USOC Sports Dietitian Network, nutritionally coaching current and future athletes to Olympic Gold. Lisa has a Miami based Integrative Sports Nutrition practice & is Sports Nutritionist for Fast Twitch Performance Training Centers.
